U.S. Olympic Training Center Renovations on Track for 2027 Completion
The United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs continues its multi-phase renovation project, with officials reporting that construction remains on schedule for completion in early 2027. The $140 million overhaul is the most significant upgrade to the facility since its establishment in 1978 and will modernize athlete housing, training venues, and sports science laboratories.
Phase two of the project, currently underway, focuses on the construction of a new aquatics center featuring a 50-meter competition pool, a dive well, and a warm-up pool. The existing pool facility, dating from the 1980s, will be demolished once the new center opens. The aquatics center also includes underwater camera systems for biomechanical analysis, an innovation that training center CEO Toby Shepherd called a game-changer for swim and dive athletes.
Athlete housing is being completely rebuilt, replacing the aging dormitory-style rooms with modern apartment-style units that offer private bedrooms, kitchenettes, and dedicated recovery spaces. The new housing complex will accommodate 550 athletes, up from the current capacity of 450. Each unit features altitude simulation technology, allowing athletes to sleep in conditions mimicking elevations up to 12,000 feet.
The renovations also include an expanded sports medicine clinic, a new strength and conditioning center with the latest equipment, and a nutrition center where athletes can work with dietitians and chefs to optimize their performance diets. Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade called the training center a cornerstone of the city's identity and expressed confidence that the upgraded facility will continue to attract the world's best athletes to the Pikes Peak region.
