Bristol Brewing Company Announces Downtown Taproom Expansion

Business · 2026-04-21 · Pikes Peak Courier

Bristol Brewing Company, one of Colorado Springs' oldest and most beloved craft breweries, revealed plans Thursday for a major expansion of its downtown taproom and production facility. The family-owned brewery, which has been crafting award-winning beers since 1994, will invest $4.2 million to renovate an adjacent warehouse space, effectively doubling their current footprint. The expansion will add 5,000 square feet of customer space including an outdoor patio, private event rooms, and an expanded kitchen offering a full food menu. Construction is slated to begin this summer with completion targeted for late 2026.

Founder Mike Bristol explained that the expansion responds to overwhelming customer demand and the need for increased brewing capacity to meet distribution goals. Bristol Brewing currently distributes its popular Laughing Lab Scottish Ale, Red Rocket Pale Ale, and seasonal offerings throughout Colorado and into neighboring states. The new facility will house additional fermentation tanks and modern canning equipment, allowing the brewery to increase production by 40%. This growth will also create approximately 25 new jobs in brewing, hospitality, and kitchen positions, contributing to Colorado Springs' thriving craft beverage industry.

The announcement comes as Colorado Springs experiences a renaissance in its downtown district, with several new restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues opening in recent years. Bristol Brewing has been a cornerstone of the local craft beer scene, weathering economic downturns and increased competition from newer breweries. Owner Mike Bristol credits the company's longevity to consistent quality, community involvement, and staying true to traditional brewing methods while experimenting with innovative recipes. The brewery has won numerous medals at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup competitions.

The expanded taproom will maintain the brewery's signature industrial-chic aesthetic while incorporating sustainable design elements including solar panels, water reclamation systems, and locally sourced materials. The outdoor patio will feature fire pits, lawn games, and views of Pikes Peak, creating a destination gathering space for both locals and tourists. Bristol Brewing also plans to increase its community involvement by hosting more fundraisers, live music events, and collaboration brews with other local businesses. The expansion represents not just growth for one business, but a vote of confidence in Colorado Springs' economic vitality and craft beverage culture.
