United States Air Force Academy cadet dies
A United States Air Force Academy cadet has died. Cadet First Class Matthew Patrick was found unconscious by academy personnel on Sept. 28. He was transported to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs where he was pronounced dead.
Patrick was an aeronautical engineering major. He was a native of Dallas and is survived by his father, mother and sister.
The Commandant of Cadets informed the Cadet Wing of the death during lunch on Sept. 28.
"The Academy family is deeply saddened by the death of one of our own. Our heart-felt condolences go out to the family and friends of our cadet," said Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, superintendent of the academy. "Our Air Force family is grieving this loss and we are committed to helping the family through this extremely difficult time."
The cause of the death remains under investigation. Academy personnel are coordinating funeral arrangements with the Patrick's family.
